Where are you from?
Aurora, Illinois
What is your major/minor?
Major: Policy Studies, Magazine; Minor: Political Science
What do you aspire to do after graduation?
As a typical first-year student, I have no idea right now. I am just letting my passions and talents guide me in whatever direction they choose until I stumble upon something that I can’t let go.
What notable opportunities have you participated in at SU?
The Black Voice newspaper, Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity, Undergraduates for a Better Education, Black Communications Society, Big Brother Big Sister, Wilson Park Community Center tutoring, Empowering Minds Movement Conference, Skills for Success Pro-Challenge.
What inspired you to attend Syracuse University?
I wanted to attend a liberal arts university on the east coast with its own journalism school. I also was very determined to attend a school with a generous financial aid package. I received all that and more from Syracuse University and decided to attend.
How has the Coronat Scholarship affected your college experience?
I have not had to worry about loans, finding a job, or fretting over the FAFSA. The scholarship has allowed me to focus extensively on my schoolwork and extracurricular activities, giving me more time to determine how and what I’m going to contribute to SU.
Do you have plans to maximize the opportunities presented by the Coronat scholarship?
While I don’t have definite plans, I have an idea of how I would like to maximize the benefits of my scholarship. Like previously stated, I want to use the time that I save by not working to get more involved on campus in activities that interest me. I would like to travel abroad for a semester.
What has been your favorite academic experience at SU?
My favorite academic experience has been my introduction to the Policy Studies major. I have searched for so long to find a major that involves impacting society for the better and gaining hands-on experience from the beginning. It is a very broad major, but I know that it will prepare me to take on whatever career I choose.
What has been your favorite non-academic experience at SU?
My favorite non-academic experience has been my induction into Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity, a community service organization. I was happy to find a group of people who love community service as much as I do.
