Life Sciences RESTORE CENTER

The RESTORE Center in Syracuse University’s Life Sciences Complex

The RESTORE Center for Environmental Biotechnology at Syracuse University was made possible by a $5 million New York State grant secured by New York State Assemblyman William B. Magnarelli. The Center encompasses high-tech teaching and research support facilities that faculty researchers and students will use to study how organisms interact with their environments. Their fundamental research will lead to innovative ways of using biological processes to improve our lives and to protect and restore the environment in which we live.

The RESTORE Center will promote collaborations between researchers and professionals from the CNY biotechnology and biopharmaceutical industries and provide highly qualified graduates to fill needed positions in these companies.  Additionally, strategic partnerships with our sister institutions—SUNY Upstate Medical University and SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry—and with local companies, will enable the biotechnologies developed in RESTORE laboratories to be transferred to the marketplace, promoting job growth and economic development.

The facilities include:

> Experimental greenhouses

> An advanced biology/microbiology teaching laboratory (room 208) and prep room

> A molecular biology/biochemistry teaching laboratory (room 207), prep rooms and cold/warm rooms

> The Biomolecular Modeling/Bioinformatics Instructional Laboratory Suite (room 215) and conference room (room 217)
