| You will not be alone while you shape your academic experience at SU! Advising is very important to our students, faculty, and staff in The College of Arts and Sciences. You will benefit from three primary types of advising:
Student Peer Advisor
These upper-class students enrolled in The College will contact you over the summer before you arrive on campus. They will also greet you and show you around campus during Orientation Week in August when you first arrive on campus. Student-peer advisors can 'show you the ropes' and help you navigate your way around campus, learn how to use the dining halls and the fitness centers. They will also take you to your faculty advisor during opening weekend and can give you tips on understanding your class schedule.
Faculty Advisor
After you decide to attend The College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University, your faculty advisor will call you over the summer to help you learn how to select the courses that you will take in the fall. They will show you how to maximize your academic opportunities through the liberal arts core curriculum. When you arrive on campus in August, you will meet your faculty advisor to discuss your class schedule and answer course related questions. Later in the fall, your faculty advisor will also help you select courses for the spring semester.
Department or Major Advisor
Once you declare a major, sometime around the end of your sophomore year, you will be assigned a faculty advisor in the appropriate department who will help you fully understand your major, select courses, and advise you with post-graduation plans. |

You will also have another advisor called a Recorder.
If you are interested in pre-medicine or pre-law, you may have a professional advisor to help you explore options in the medical and legal professions.
Recorder
Throughout your undergraduate career your college recorder will track your degree progress and advise you on course selection for completion of the Liberal Arts Core and credit for courses taken at your local community college. |
